I haven't done one of these in a while, mostly because I'm a creature of habit. When I find a cigar I like, I tend to stick with them for a long time. I've gone through boxes and boxes of My Uzi Weighs A Ton and Asylum 13 rather than try anything new, so the other day I finally made myself grab something different.
I picked up a Macanudo Cru Royal Poco Gordo (4x60) the other day. I like 60-ring cigars a lot. Nothing larger, because it starts to get cartoonish at that point. Seriously, it can look like you're trying to smoke a policeman's billy club when you go larger. I usually stick to double toro (6x60) or smaller. I first tried a Macanudo Cru Royale as a double toro a few months back, and while it was an ok smoke, it suffered from one of the worst draws I've ever had to experience. It felt like I was trying to suck a golf ball through a garden hose, for God's sake. After that I stayed away from them for a while, and then I saw my usual store started carrying these little guys. Since it wasn't pricey, I snagged one for my commute home.
This one thankfully did not have the same draw issues, though it was still a little tighter than I like. It lit fine, and had some decent flavor. The flavor was much better than the double toro, though that might have been because of the draw issues it had. The Poco Gordo is mellow, but not mild. To me it was a bit chocolaty and earthy. It burned evenly, though the ash was a little flaky. I really enjoyed it, and I could definitely see it becoming a regular staple, especially as a morning stick.

Try these some day: AVO Maduro or Partagas 1845 line.

I used to smoke AVO Classic #2 & #3 all the time. I haven't had one in ages. Anything with 'maduro' on it is usually up my alley too, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

They're probably my all time favorite. Although I am a HUGE fan of my uzi weighs a ton.

I really dig MUWAT. Have you tried the Kentucky Fire Cured ones? It's like smoking a campfire. I thought I wouldn't like them, but they're good.

Can't say I have.
